Fractal Science Math Academy Matches School Supply Donations for Human Needs Food Pantry Montclair

Dr. Kevin Anderson, founder of Montclair’s Fractal Science and Math Academy announced today that the academy will match school supply donations to the Human Needs Food Pantry of Montclair.

It’s Summertime, and the living should be easy, but for hundreds of families in our area summer puts an extra burden on low income families. Programs that help families with everything from meals to child care go on hiatus until the school year starts again. The back to school season adds yet another burden as families discover that the kids have outgrown last year’s clothes and school supplies are needed. The Human Needs Pantry of Montclair recently put out a call on social media for school supply donations.

Knowing that a strong early educational foundation prepares students for more advanced secondary and collegiate courses, Anderson contacted the pantry about making a donation. By the end of the call he realized that his action could be multiplied by others in the community if he set up a matching donation challenge. Fractal Science and Match Academy will match school supplies donations to the Human Needs Food Pantry (up to $150).

“The Human Needs Pantry helps hundreds of families in the area with supplemental nutrition assistance. Their clients include the elderly and disabled, but also families who have fallen on hard financial times.” said Anderson. “For so many of us a job loss, illness, or injury can put us in the very same position. As an educator I like to challenge my students to find the solutions on their own, by establishing this match I hope to challenge the community to come together to support the education of children in our area.” The Human Needs Pantry is collecting new school supplies including notebooks, pens, calculators, crayons, backpacks, and anything children need to begin the new school year. According to Michael Bruno, Director of the Pantry, donations are short of where they usually are this time of year. Anderson hopes that his match-challenge will get the donations back on track.

“So many of the great minds of the last century came from humble beginnings, the person who makes a major medical breakthrough, discovers new fuel sources, or designs the cities of the future might be right here in Montclair, Bloomfield, Verona, or Fairfield. With a strong early education these kids will excel.”

Fractal Science and Math Academy will match donations of school supplies to the Human Needs Food Pantry up to $150. Donations can be made at the Human Needs Pantry on Tuesday and Thursdays or any day at the Fractal Academy in Montclair. About Fractal Science and Math Academy

Laughing With Tyler Perry on #Madiba 's Birthday #MandelaDay

Seriously people, it's Madiba's birthday, not Medea's!

Medea is a hysterically funny character created by Tyler Perry.

A madiba is a brightly coloured batik print shirt, popularized in South Africa by President Nelson Mandela. It is considered formal wear. The name madiba comes from the name of an honorary title given in his clan.  Madiba is also the affectionate name give by South Africans to Nelson Mandela, who who have celebrated his 96th birthday today.

Bloomfield NJ Restaurant Week August 3-9 2014

The Township of Bloomfield, New Jersey will hold its Third Annual Restaurant Week from Sunday, August 3rd through Saturday, August 9th, 2014. During this week, an anticipated twenty plus local eateries will offer prix-fixe menu selections designed to attract both new and returning customers. At the conclusion of the week-long event, there will be a random drawing for a $100 gift certificate which the winner can redeem at the participating restaurant of choice.
If youre a foodie, Bloomfield is the place to be during our Third Annual Bloomfield Restaurant Week. You will get to see what our talented chefs have to offer, promises Anthony Lauro, owner of Anthonys Cheesecakes, and one of the Bloomfield Restaurant Week committee members.
Riding on the success of the previous events, this years organizing committee is optimistic that the third annual food week event will yield an even greater turnout. Francesco Palmieri, an original committee member and owner of The Orange Squirrel, a top-rated restaurant pick by The New York Times and New Jersey Monthly, predicts, Judging by the success of the first two events we expect an even stronger turn out - We are excited and optimistic that our 2014 event will be the biggest yet.
The special prix-fixe, multi-course options offered by each participating restaurant encourages diners to try several different eateries during the August promotional week. As an added incentive, customers can enter a free raffle for a $100 gift certificate to the participating restaurant of choice. To enter the drawing, customers can visit the Bloomfield Restaurant Week Facebook page and simply Join the Mailing List.
Andres Quesada-Cascante, founding committee member and co-owner of Señoritas Mexican Grill sees Bloomfield Restaurant Week as an opportunity to create awareness about Bloomfields dining scene. We want to highlight all of the variety and different ethnic restaurants in Bloomfield. People were very happy with our previous events - with the price point, the great food selections and the level of customer service they received.
Bloomfield Restaurant Weeks extensive mix of participating eateries includes American, Italian, Mexican, Thai, Vietnamese, Philippine, French and more, according to Quesada-Cascante.
Rodgee Cao, owner of Spice Thai Cuisine, is equally enthusiastic about this event and the opportunity to interact with the dining community. For me, food is universal and thats what excites me about Bloomfield Restaurant Week. As a restaurant owner, I get to meet all types of people from different backgrounds. During the last event, I met some new customers who had never eaten Thai food before and they have now become regular customers. Bloomfield has a rich cultural history and diversity and Restaurant Week showcases the array of eclectic and fascinating cuisine our town has to offer. He continues, My hope about this third annual Restaurant Week is to make people aware that they really dont have to go to Montclair or Nutley or Newark because we have an array of different restaurants representing food from all over the world that they can patronize right here in Bloomfield.
Extensive promotions for Bloomfield Restaurant Week will reach local residents as well as the neighboring communities of Montclair, Nutley, Glen Ridge, Belleville, Clifton, West Orange and beyond.
Xcel Federal Credit Union and Comcast Spotlight are major sponsors and promoters of the event; watch for commercials on Comcast beginning in July on the Cooking Channel, Food Network and other local cable channels.
Palmieri commends Bloomfields local government, particularly Mayor Michael Venezia, for directly supporting Bloomfield Restaurant Week and encouraging restaurant growth in the community. Restaurants are the driving force of a township because people go into a town to dine or for shopping. Theyll get a visual experience of a town as well see what the town has to offer...its cross-promotional.
According to Palmieri, thats why many Bloomfield businesses other than restaurants are getting involved with financial sponsorship and promotion of Bloomfield Restaurant Week, including individuals, small local businesses and larger corporations.
Additional Information including participating restaurant menus and specials for Bloomfield Restaurant Week is available at http://www.BloomfieldRestaurantWeek.com;

Happy Independence Day

Devil Gourmet: Dine Out For The Best Garden State Eats This 4th Of July

Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fireworks are so delightful, and since the food scene is the place to go, get up and go, get up and go, get up and go!

In our over-scheduled, over extended, over the top lives setting up a grill, and cleaning said grill, is just about the last thing most of us want to do, but we do it anyway because those are the rules. Then along came Arthur and the rainstorms that pretty much cancelled or postponed most outdoor activities and set the stage for the best Fourth of July ever! Now everyone has the perfect excuse to go out for an enjoyable meal with family and friends without the scornful glances of your neighbor for breaking tradition. (you know the one, everyone has THAT neighbor)

As you start making plans to head out to some of the best restaurants in the Garden State, just remember, if THAT neighbor says anything to you, just tell him that "the Devil told me to do it!"

Pop over to Devil Gourmet to find out what's open this Fourth Of July
